Jun. 30—The Nordson Corporation, based in Westlake, has announced plans to relocate a growing manufacturing to a new facility in South Carolina.
Nordson's Industrial Coatings Systems (ICS) division has "grown significantly" over the last few years causing the company to outgrow its existing manufacturing plant in Amherst, according to a statement from Nordson.
Plans of expanding of the manufacturing plant to meet customers' increasing needs became more difficult, due to the site being landlocked by nearby train tracks and a residential community.
The new facility will allow the company to host all of the manufactured products in one site instead of several buildings, the company said.
On June 14, Nordson notified leaders of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1802 union of the intention to move facilities, according to the statement, although noting that all Industrial Coatings Systems non manufacturing roles will remain in Amherst.
Though this decision results in ceasing manufacturing operations in the facility, the transition would occur over time.
According to the statement, Nordson remains committed to Northeast Ohio with over 70% of the local workforce remaining in Amherst and the headquarters in Westlake.
Amherst manufacturing employees are recognized for their commitment, and Nordson will partner, in good faith, with union leadership to "provide resources that would ease the transition for impacted employees," according to the statement.
