The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is seeking to hire at least 85 Aviation Security Officers (ASOs) for O’Hare and Midway International Airports, Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee announced today.
ASOs at Chicago’s airports perform a wide variety of tasks, including:
- Conducting regular patrols throughout the terminal, grounds and perimeter of their assigned airport
- Verifying identification badges at designated checkpoints
- Inspecting vehicles entering the airfield and other restricted zones
- Responding to safety and security incidents, including detaining individuals suspected of violating laws or security protocols
“Each day, more than 50,000 badged employees report to work at Chicago’s airports with one top priority in mind: the safety and security of passengers who arrive, depart and connect through our airports,” said Commissioner Rhee. “Our team of dedicated ASOs provide a critical security presence and help to ensure O’Hare and Midway are quick to respond to any situation with the support of our partners at the Chicago Police Department, the Chicago Fire Department and federal agencies.”
Qualified candidates for the ASO role will have at least one year of work experience in safety, security, loss prevention, or customer service roles. Candidates with active-duty military experience, accredited higher education course credits or security certification are also encouraged to apply. The position benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; paid vacation and sick time; as well as a City of Chicago pension plan. The ASO positions are union-based, with a starting salary of $53,340.
